Mini Birthday
The Mini we have down in Boomtown celebrates it’s 50th Birthday today.
The couple who donated it – Paul & Angela Lightburn are coming in this afternoon with a birthday cake for their lovely car at 2pm.

Museum supporters Fund Raising finale
All this week a great supporter of the museum – Stuart Kettell - has been raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support by literally living in a box above Lady Godiva in the centre of Coventry.
This Sunday – 28th March – he’ll be coming down and being released from his box at 6pm. We will be there from 3pm on Sunday afternoon with great music, prize giveaways and dedications for three hours. It’s all free so come along and join us from 3 o’clock to give Stuart Kettell a HUGE cheer on his amazing achievement! You can keep up to date with his challenge by logging on to www.willthemadfoolmakeit.co.uk and we’ll see you on Sunday!

Jaguars through the times
Last week, Coventry saw some of the leading thinkers of the world at the Coventry Urban Design Symposium. The evening session took place here at the Museum. Jaguar being one of the sponsors, put up a fantastic display in Millennium Place of Jaguars - from the classics to the latest Jaguar XF!

A Pat on the Back!
Here's a nice little feedback by one of our visitors on their Great Day out at the Museum. This piece was published in this week's Classic Car Weekly -

"In a past edition of CCW you mentioned the Museum of British Road Transport in Coventry as worth a visit. I therefore thought you might be interested in a little feedback. On a recent trip to Solihull to collect a pair of wind deflectors for my Saab 900 Classic, my wife and I decided to use the rest of the day to visit Coventry's Museum. We are so pleased that we did, as we had a wonerdful few hours looking at the exhibitis and reminiscing about days gone-by.
On show are some superb classic cars, motorcycles, bicycles and much, much more. One thoughful aspect of the museum is that there are plenty of places where you can sit down and rest your legs and the whole place is wheelchair friendly. The staff I spoke to was very polite, knowledgeable and obviously enjoyed his job - a real happy chappy. On noticing my Saab Enthusiasts' Club badge, he invited me for a closer look at the new Spyker sports car, made by the Dutch company that has taken over Saab. What a beautiful piece of engineering it is!
We will definitely be returnng for another visit and with exhibits frequently changing, there will always be something different to see. Oh, I nearly forgot, it gets better - admission is FREE! I say well done to Coventry and thanks to CCW for this and other useful tips."

New Exhibition 'Transport for Disabled People: Past - Present - Future' (2nd April 2010)
How many vehicles for disabled people have you seen on display in museums lately?
Now, here's your chance to take a journey through the history of disabled vehicles as we are staging a unique exhibition of vehicles designed for the disabled from the 19th century to the present and even into the future.
For the first time in the history of British museum, an innovative exhibition is being staged where so many disabled vehicles will be brought together to tell the story of how the disabled transport industry has developed in terms of design and attitutes towards theses vehicles and its users.
The exhibition will be opened by Paralympian Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson on Thursday 1st April and will be open to public from 2nd April.
There will be some fascinating vehicles on display including:
• The ‘Blood Waggon’ – a very early and unusual carriage, purpose built for a Boer War British Colonel
• A WW1 Raleigh Invalid Carriage – a hand-propelled three-wheeler used by British soldiers injured from the Great War
• A Harper Mark 1 – a motorised three-wheeler full-bodied vehicle, thought to be the only remaining type to survive
• A Nelco ‘Solocar’ – an electric powered streamlined part-bodied invalid carriage
• An Invacar Model 70 – the iconic full-bodied three-wheeler once a common sight on our roads. Available in a range of colours as long as it was sky blue!
Bring the family along and spend some quality time together on Good Friday getting to know more about a very important slice of road transport history! See the ‘Highfield Road Wall’ line up, the Invalid carriages of achievement, plus many more vehicles of interest.

Spring Craft Fair (20th - 21st March 2010)
The Craft Fair is back yet again at the Museum! You can browse through stalls displaying homemade products including knitwear, paintings, jewellery, handmade cards and other crafts and pick some unique and interesting gifts for friends and family.
The event takes place in the Museum’s Mezzanine Gallery on the 20th and 21st March. The Museum itself is free to enter.
If you make some unusual and interesting craft items yourself and wish to have a go at selling them, the Craft Fair is the place to be. Book early to guarantee a stall as only a small number of stalls are available at the Craft Fair please contact the Museum on 024 7623 4270 for further information.

Women's Festival 2010
With Coventry Women's Forum revving up with its Coventry Women's Festival, the Museum will be joining in with some of our own women's specials!
It's Women's History Weekend on 6th & 7th March where our friendly and enthusiatic facilitators will be dressed up in costume and ready to divulge more and more about the women during Second World War. You can also take a Women's History Trail through the Museum to spot some of the spectacular women and their contributions to the motoring history.
A great way to celebrate women's achievements throughout history ... this weekend's a 'must-not-miss'!

Storytelling week (1st Feb - 7th Feb)
What does Coventry mean to you? Have you got your own special 'Coventry story'? Have you any interesting memories or anecdotes related to Coventry? If you wish you tell us come along to the Museum next week from 1st February to 7th February and tell us 'Your Coventry Story'.
It's National Storytelling Week and we would like to celebrate it with you and your family. There's loads of fun storytelling activities you can join in. Follow a trail around the Museum and turn the clues into a storybook or a comic strip. Or listen to the story of Lady Godiva told by her modern-day counterpart Pru Poretta.
This is a celebration of the art of storytelling and the pleasure of listening to stories or reading them. Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity to revisit your childhood and the magical world of stories!

New gallery 'Ghost Town' opens tomorrow
We are all ready and raring to open the doors of our new gallery 'Ghost Town? What happened to Coventry Car Industry? 1980 - 2010' to you. Come along for a truly incredible museum experience as you findout about how the Coventry car factories went from boom to bust .Get up close with the Peugeots and the Jags of the era and watch interviews of ex-workers from the Ryton plant. Immerse yourself in the red and black tones of the gallery which will add to that emotional experience! Finally, you get to take a vote on whether the car factories should have kept running or close down as eventually happened in the very original Boardroom of the Rootes Group/Chrysler/Peugeot Talbot companies which was rescued from the Ryton Plant before it was taken down and has been rebuilt in the gallery complete with the original table and oak panelled walls.

Farewell to Doctor Who!
It's your last chance to meet Doctor Who at the Museum! It's hard to believe that the exhibition has been on for almost a year! Thanks to all you Doctor Who die-hards!
Well, now that the exhibition is wrapping up this Sunday (yes, it's no longer going to be there, folks!) we decided to go out with a big bang. It's Doctor Who Farewell Weekend this Saturday-Sunday at the Museum, where there's going to be loads of fun activities that the whole family can enjoy together... and again, as always these activities are FREE! So have a go at colouring your Doctor Who character or make your own TARDIS!
And that's not all... Malcolm Boyden from BBC Coventry & Warwickshire is going be here for a Doctor Who Live Radio Show on Saturday 9th January from 11am to 12noon. So those who would like to 'air' it, make sure you are here at the Museum by 10.30am!
The ticket prices have already been slashed and now, there's a flat 30% off on all Doctor Who merchandise in the shop. And what better way to bid farewell than pick up a Doctor Who souvenir at absolutely time stopping prices?
So don’t miss this fabulous last weekend with your favourite Doctor Who characters, come along and be part of the farewell!
